The compartments are great to keep food items separated, and make it easy for little ones. I served today's lunch - salad, rice, veggies, tofu and yogurt - in reusable stainless steel plates with compartments. These plates can be used for years to come and are kid safe as they don't break! I have seen similar plates at a corelle store.
